Iconography:  Dormition of the Holy Virgin

Date: XV century. The late 15th - early 16 centuries.

Iconographic school/art center:  North of Russia (Transonega).

Origin: From the Chapel of the Assumption in the village of Vasilyevo, Medvezhyegorsk district, the Republic of Karelia).

Material: Wood, tempera

Dimensions:  height 55,5 cm, width 40,5 cm

The figure of the Mother of God lying on the couch, flanked by the apostles is depicted against an architectural landscape. In the center of the icon is the figure of Jesus Christ with a swaddled child on his hands – the symbol of the immaculate soul. On either side of him stand the figures of angels and hierarchs.
