The icon of John the Baptist from the Deesis row of the iconostais, along with an icon of the Mother of God, is the first pair of figures standing before Christ the Savior Enthroned. John the Baptist is portrayed with bushy hair and a beard, austere dark face, dressed in sheepskins and a himation.
