Iconography:  Synaxis of the Mother of God

Date: XVI century. Second half of the XVIth century

Origin: was removed from the church of Nativity of the Mother of God in the village of Ludy, Primorsky district, Archangelskaya region (1862)

Material: Wood, cut-back central portion, canvas, levkas, tempera, wrought silver, gilding

Dimensions:  height 108,4 cm, width 78,5 cm

In the center of the composition on the throne surrounded by the glorious aureole is sitting Our Lady with the Divine Child. Above Her is the star of Bethlehem. To Her left are the Magi with the gifts, to Her right – the shepherds announcing the Nativity of Christ. Below are personified depictions of the Earth and the Desert. In the shape of two female figures. Below are famous hymnographers and the Fathers of the Church glorifying the Mother of God.
The ion is decorated with the silver basm which covers not onlythe borders but partially the background and the hills.
