• Kontakion in the Eastern Orthodox Church liturgy is a short hymn dedicated to the Savior, the Holy Virgin, a feast or saint. The kontakion is a verbal icon describing a feast or the life and exploits of a saint. The kontakia themes were often used in iconography.
