The icon cross "The Crucifixion" with bystanders. Made in the form of icon-setting and a cast copper gilded cross cut into wood, with a depiction of figures bystanding the cross. The icon-setting is engraved and hammered. Two master’s brands: "1818" and "84". -
The Crucifixion — a cross with Christ’s body — shoots up from the earth into the sky. This is a bridge between the earth and the Kingdom of Heaven. By the foot of the cross is earth crevice - earth interior - with a scull inside. It is a scull of Adam, the first man, upon which from the nailed feet of Christ flows his blood, the blood of redemption. Longinus of Caesarea having seen Christ’s suffering, believed in Him as the Son of God. On the icon St. Longinus is depicted standing right from the cross behind John the Theologian, who was charged by Jesus Christ to take care of his mother. “This is the mother of yours.” Left of the cross stands the Mother of God in dark vestment, behind her are Maries. -

The icon is divided into 4 parts with the crucifixion. In the top left corner is the scene of the Fiery Ascension of Elijah the Prophet, in the right top corner is the Unburnt Bush. -
Crucifixion with four standing saints and four icons of the Holy Virgin
In the center of the icon is the Crucifixion, in the top and lower corners are four icons of the Mother of God: The Mother of God of Tenderness toward Evil Hearts, The Exaction of the Perished People, Virgin the Deliverance of sufferers from misfortunes, Virgin the Consoler of sorrowing people. The crucifixion is flanked by saint Mary, Martha, John the Baptist and St. Longinus the Martyr. On the borders are the figures of an angel, Nicholas the Wonderworker and saint martyr Alexandra. -

In the central part, against an architectural background, is the Cross with the crucified Jesus Christ. He is flanked by the figures of the Holy Mother, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist and Longinus. -
Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist interceding
In the central section of the icon against the townscape is crucified Jesus Christ with the saints interceding: on the left- the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, Martha, and on the right-St.John the Theologian and St.Longinus,the Centurion. Above the Cross are two archangels and the Lord of Sabaoth in the clouds.In the corners of the central section are the celestial bodies. -
In the left upper corner is the scene of the Entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem. To the right is the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In the upper part of the icon are the scenes of the Deposition from the Cross and the Laying in the Tomb. -
In the lower tier is shown the full-length depiction of John the Baptist in a three-quarter turn. In the upper tier is represented the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. -
In the center of the icon against the background of the landscape is shown the Cross with crucified Jesus Christ. To His Right and to His left are shown the figures of the Holy Virgin and women of Jerusalem and also John the Theologian and St. Longinus, the Centurion. Under the horizontal bar of the cross are depicted two hovering angels mourning Christ’s death, their hands covered. The composition unfolds against the background of the wall of Jerusalem with the two steeple-roofed “gothic” towers. The whole composition and interceding folks are traditional for the Russian icon painting of the 14-16th centuries. However, poses and gestures of the figures have some peculiarities, in particular the pose of dead Christ, sagging on the nailed hands. His head with the lock of hair breaking loose falls on his chest. The composition might have been influenced by the later gothic versions which were keen on depicting the emotional aspect. The depictions of Our Lady fainting on the hands of myrrh-bearers and also John the Theologian represented with his hands raised are also characteristic of the later gothic tradition. -
